Janelle Taggart ’12
International Falls, Minnesota
Why St. Kate’s: “I chose St. Kate’s for a lot of reasons — the small class sizes, beautiful campus, a wide array of clubs and organizations, its location within the Twin Cities and curiosity about a single-gender education.”
Women’s education: “I greatly appreciate St. Kate’s focus on women. Due to it, I was able to realize my own power and leadership skills. St. Kate’s taught me that by focusing on certain characteristics, I could be a facilitator of change in my local community as well as the global community.”
Favorite course: Leadership and the Art of Persuasion. “This class is perfect! I plan on being a leader in whatever profession my future holds, and this class literally teaches you how to be a better leader and handle any situation with style and grace.”
Outside the classroom: Janelle is involved with the St. Kate’s Activities Team, Swing Club, French Club, P.R.I.D.E, Orientation Staff and Student Senate.
Study abroad: “I'm traveling to South Africa in January 2011 for a Global Search for Justice course.”
On campus life: “The most surprising thing about St. Kate’s is how little hierarchy of power there is among the students, professors and administrators. St. Kate’s truly is a community where all voices are heard and listened to.”
Future plans: Janelle is planning to pursue communication studies in graduate school.
