Elena Brown, class of 2005Elena Brown ’05

Grew up: St. Petersburg, Russia

Former career: Engineer

Current job: “I have been at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in the MRI department since graduation. With its combination of state-of-the-art modern technology and its great team of professionals, it has turned out to be a great career.”

Why radiography? “I always enjoyed technical things, but also was curious about the medical sciences. When I came to the USA, I took the opportunity to combine those two of my interests in one new career: radiology technology.”

Why St. Kate’s? I decided on St. Kate’s because of its time-proven excellence in providing quality education, its renowned reputation and its strong spiritual and ethical groundings. Right from the beginning, the friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff that I met from my own career counselor to the dean of the college and program director impressed me so much that I knew immediately this was the school for me.”

Faculty support: “During my two years in the radiology program, St. Kate’s became my extended family. The faculty was always dedicated to making sure I had the best opportunities to gain the necessary professional knowledge for future career success.”

Favorite courses: “I loved anatomy and my clinical practice, but even some of the purely academic subjects were presented by faculty members in such an interesting way that it was fun and easy to learn.”

Finding a job after graduation: “There were many different clinics and hospitals affiliated with our program as clinical sites whose staff already knew our capabilities as students. So, applying for a position was not stressful at all. I feel very fortunate that I got my job from the very first interview even before I finished the program.”
