Graduates of the program receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree and are eligible to sit for the national certification exam administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, they receive the title of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
Many states have some form of regulation in order to practice. In Minnesota, occupational therapy personnel must be licensed with the Minnesota Department of Health.
A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
