Interior Design
St. Catherine University will offer a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design beginning in fall 2012.
This program suits smart, creative, critical thinkers interested in making the environments in which we live and work healthier, more serene, more productive and aesthetically pleasing.
Unique to St. Kate's
The interior design program is housed in St. Kate's School of Business and Professional Studies to cultivate design expertise plus business savvy. Students will also have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty from the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health on projects related to the design of healthcare facilities and environments.
Rigorous learning
We listened to leaders of top design firms and designed a curriculum based on what they said are key success factors in the field. In addition to rigorous design preparation, the program emphasizes research, or evidence-based, design. St. Kate's also weaves ethics and social responsibility into coursework.
Bond with industry professionals
Junior and senior courses will be held at International Market Square (IMS) near downtown Minneapolis. Learning there jump-starts a designer's career — through networking, mentoring, internships and invitations to industry-only events with many of the largest interior design and architectural firms in the Midwest.

Get ready for licensure/certification
St. Kate's interior design major is patterned after the professional standards of the Center for Interior Design Accreditation. This degree prepares you for certification or licensure throughout the United States and Canada, including the Certified Interior Designer (C.I.D.) in Minnesota.
Technology requirements
You'll learn how to use modern drawing and rendering computer software to develop the best design solutions. All interior design majors must own a personal laptop. Software, such as AutoCAD and Revit, will be supplied for free.
Senior capstone project
You will complete a 12-month capstone project in your final year. This project allows you to develop expertise in a specific interior design market and gain deeper understanding of project budgeting and project management.
Role models and mentors
St. Kate's faculty — all designers or experts in the field —teach students how to listen to clients needs, develop spot-on solutions and become valued members of a team while preparing them for leadership roles in the future.
